Eagle Collaborates With Iowa’s OSHA Consultation Program

At Eagle Construction, safety is NO accident. We take great pride in ensuring that our workers can operate in a safe and secure environment. Recently, we elected to participate in the Iowa OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) Consultation Program, which is designed to help companies like us maintain their commitment to safety and ensure that they are in compliance with all of the necessary regulations.

The OSHA Consultation Program is run by the Iowa Division of Labor, and it is designed to help companies improve their safety and health programs. The program provides free on-site consultations to companies that request them, and it is completely voluntary. The goal of the program is to help companies identify potential safety and health hazards in the workplace, and then work to eliminate or reduce those hazards.

The collaboration with the OSHA Consultation Program is just one of the many ways that Eagle Construction is working to maintain our commitment to safety. We have also implemented several other safety programs, including regular safety meetings and training sessions for all employees. Additionally, we have invested in the latest safety equipment and technology to ensure that their workers are always protected while on the job.

As part of our Construction Safety Week celebration, we visited our Boulevard Apartments jobsite in Marion, IA for a safety lunch and OSHA Consultation. The day began with an all-hands on deck Toolbox Talk, led by Superintendent, Tyrone. Toolbox Talks are an important part of our workplace safety program. They provide a forum for workers and supervisors to discuss specific safety hazards and safe work practices.

After the morning meeting, a Safety Consultant from the Iowa OSHA Consultation Program arrived onsite to begin the consultation. Tyrone, Project Manager, Brandon, and Eagle President, Josh met with the Consultant in the job trailer to discuss what to expect during the visit and standard safety protocols they would be looking for during the walk-thru. As a highlight, the Consultant emphasized that OSHA compliance officers will be on the lookout for heat illness prevention as the weather gets warmer. They discussed employer responsibilities: making sure there is enough water and shade on-site and that workers are taking sufficient breaks throughout the day. Fall protection, as well as trench and excavation hazards are also high priority items for OSHA.

The team headed to the apartment building, starting on the fourth floor, and working their way around the entire site. The Consultant asked questions about various safety items and shared ways to improve noted items and enhance current procedures. The Consultant answered the team’s questions candidly and was a resource and sounding board for solutions and improvements.

At the end of the tour, the team regrouped back in the trailer for a debriefing session. This gave the Consultant an opportunity to explain items they had noted in detail and provide feedback for action items.

Overall, Eagle Construction’s collaboration with the Iowa OSHA Consultation Program is an important step in ensuring that our workers can operate in a safe and secure environment. By working with the program, we will be able to identify potential hazards on jobsites and take steps to eliminate them before they become a problem. This will help ensure that our workers are protected and that the company remains in compliance with all necessary safety regulations.
